Company
Founded in 1979, Blasch Precision Ceramics, Inc. is an Albany, NY based manufacturing company. Blasch produces and markets net shape ceramic and refractory components to a wide variety of industrial markets worldwide. During the 1980's, the components produced by Blasch were consumed primarily by the metallurgical industry, where operating environments require resistance to corrosion, erosion, and chemical reaction at high temperatures and pressures. During the 1990's, Blasch began to diversify into other industrial areas having similar operating environments. These industries include the chemical, petro-chemical, process heating, power generation, and air purification markets.
Mission Statement
Blasch Precision Ceramics is a Customer-First manufacturing company dedicated to delivering world-class service and high-end quality products to its customers.
We are dedicated to the expansion of our business by identifying and capitalizing on opportunities for unique ceramic solutions and customer service within growing niche market areas at early stage, as well as increasing our market share within existing markets.
We are committed to the further development of our products and technology, thereby providing the company with sustainable competitive technical advantages in its markets.
In addition to providing a competitive return to our investors and shareholders, Blasch is dedicated to the personal and professional development of its employees and to creating career opportunities through the growth and expansion of our business, in a safe, healthful and friendly working environment.
Technology
The Blasch Process is a unique, proprietary forming method developed to produce net shape and near net shape ceramic parts exhibiting very attractive physical properties. First, the process allows for the precise control of dimensional tolerances and the manufacture of complex shapes with no need for machining. Second, parts have excellent resistance to infiltration due to microporosity with average pore diameters =5µm. Many of the products produced by Blasch have complex shapes that could not be produced with other existing ceramic technology. As a result, several patents exist covering Blasch's unique technology.
Products
Approximately 80% of the company products are for applications in secondary and primary metal production, with most uses in molten metal containment and flow control. Products include crucibles, nozzles, rods, catalyst products, diffusers, ferrules, and tubes. All of these products are available in a wide variety of materials and sizes based on the particular needs of the application. Blasch has carved out niche markets in several areas due to the dimensional controls that exist in the process. Blasch manufactures several products that can not be produced by conventional forming methods. These products include:
| Product: |
Segmented crucibles for lining induction furnaces |
| Benefit: |
Withstands vigorous thermal cycling far better that other monolithic crucibles or rammed linings resulting in longer service life. |
| Product: |
Hex Head Ferrules for waste heat boilers |
| Benefit: |
Eliminated the need for time consuming and costly castable pour |
| Product: |
Riser/Fill/Stalk tubes for low pressure die casting |
| Benefit: |
Smaller pore size for better bubble distribution resulting in more efficient degassing of molten aluminum. Also, precise fits between the riser tube and the mold reduce or eliminate scrapped production due to leaking at the mold/tube interface. |
Almost all of the products produced by Blasch are unique to the customer and many of the designs are proprietary to that customer.
ESOP (Employee Stock Ownership Plan)
As of 2006, Blasch Precision Ceramics, Inc. became an employee owned company. We are now making even greater commitments to the quality of our products and to our customers than ever before. Using the ESOP as a foundation for quality improvements such as lean manufacturing, Blasch and its partners/employees are making rapid progress to ensure the consistency and performance our customers have grown to expect and appreciate. The ownership culture has improved virtually every aspect of the production and delivery processes, as well as, motivating partners to explore continuous improvements in every area of the company.
Future
Blasch will continue to strive for excellence in the area of ceramic refractory components employing an engineered systems approach to solve customer problems and further improve and prolong the life of ceramic and refractory parts. A dedicated staff of material and application engineers will continue to develop materials and design parts to satisfy specific customer needs.
