Blasch Launches New Line of “087” High Performance Crucibles

-- Offers lower cost, higher performance than Zirconia crucibles --

ALBANY, NY (Oct. 1, 2008) –Blasch Precision Ceramics has launched a new line of high-performance, lower cost ceramic crucibles that can replace Zirconia crucibles in the production of superalloys commonly used in aerospace, medical, and other difficult applications.

Called simply “087,” the new crucibles, made of a proprietary Blasch composition, offer several advantages over Zirconia crucibles. 087 crucibles are less expensive, more corrosion and crack resistant., and offer superior Thermal Shock Resistance.  Further, they deliver more heats per campaign than Zirconia crucibles. The 087 crucibles are available in sizes from 5 lbs up to 15,000 lbs.

Unlike conventional crucibles, Blasch 087 crucibles are manufactured with cast leak detector holes. This process produces precise hole dimensions and eliminates the stresses typically caused when leak detector holes are drilled, as is the custom of most crucible manufacturers. Drilled holes increase the likelihood of propagating cracks and ultimately failure of the crucible, but the Blasch method solves this problem.

In addition to higher temperature stabilization, field reports indicate improvements in corrosion resistance, leading to longer service life, including the alloying of various metals including stainless steel.

Founded in 1979, Blasch Precision Ceramics serves a variety of manufacturing and processing industries throughout the world, providing innovative, customized solutions for difficult chemical and high temperature applications.
