Employees Share Their Personal Stories at LVORC’s Authors’ Night 2015

Albany, NY, October 28, 2015 – On the night of October 20, 2015, Yousif Mohammed and Mahgoub Idris took the stage, and in their own words, told their stories. Each year, the Literacy Volunteers of Rensselaer County (LVORC) holds an “Authors’ Night” where tutors and students, family and friends get together to celebrate literacy and listen to the students as they read about their lives – in words that they painstakingly learned to spell and speak. Many recount their journeys of coming to America.

Yousif and Mahgoub, both from Sudan, are employees of and two of the members of the LVORC Workplace Literacy Program at Blasch Precision Ceramics, Inc., an Albany-based ceramic technology manufacturer.
“The work of the Literacy Volunteers of Rensselaer County and their Workplace Literacy Program has truly made a difference in the lives of many of our employees,” said Jack Parrish, President of Blasch Precision Ceramics. “We are extremely proud of our members who take part in this program and applaud them for their commitment and dedication.”
Not only do the employees taking part in this program gain confidence, pride, and better communication skills, but several current employees of Blasch have also been able to achieve United States Citizenship due, in part, to their hard work in these classes.
