Blasch Precision Ceramics, Inc., produces and markets net shape ceramic and refractory components to a wide variety of industrial markets worldwide. These industries include specialty alloys, non-ferrous metals, chemical/petrochemical processing, power generation, industrial process heating and mining.
The Blasch Process is a unique, proprietary forming method developed to produce net shape and near net shape ceramic parts exhibiting very attractive physical properties. Many of the products produced by Blasch have complex shapes that could not be produced with other existing ceramic technology.
Position Overview
The Customer Development Engineer assists in technical efforts by performing quantitative and qualitative analyses on test samples and products, communicating with customers relating their concerns/complaints, and providing additional technical support to the Technology team as needed.
Duties and Responsibilities
1. Technical Customer Support
- Represent the company in its technical efforts as a contact when assigned to a customer for concerns relating their product(s)/process(es)
- Lead destructive and/or non-destructive tests on ceramic products to determine the cause of concern/failure
- Lead technical conversation(s) with customers
- Build and manage technical rapport with customers
- Collaborate with the Manufacturing team to investigate and circumvent material and/or process related customer issues
- Collaborate and assist other engineers (Product Development, Process, Materials)
- Report activity, progress to goals, and other pertinent customer information at regular intervals to superior
- Frequent collaboration inter- and intra-departmentally
- Occasional domestic travel to customers for technical support or installation assistance
- Occasional international travel to customers for technical support or installation assistance
- All other tasks as assigned by the manager

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as laptop computers and smart phones.
This role will additionally use professional lab equipment such as weighing scales, digital gauges, electric kilns, industrial mixers, vacuum pumps, and other lab-based equipment.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position. The manufacturing plant is open 24 x 7; Sunday – Friday. Typical office hours are Monday through Friday; 8 hours/day, typically 8:00 am – 5:00 pm.
Travel
Up to 20% of travel to customer sites expected
Required Education and Experience
BS or advanced degree in Ceramic Engineering or Material Science disciplines
Minimum 1 year of previous experience working in an applicable scientific position
Alternate
BS or advanced degree in Chemistry or Material Science disciplines
Minimum 3 years of previous experience working in a scientific position in the ceramic industry
Wage Range: $60,000 – 65,000/year
